Updated: 2 March 2026

Background

28/02/2026:

The United States and Israel launch coordinated military strikes against Iran, targeting military infrastructure and leadership centres across Iranian cities, including Tehran. This joint offensive is widely reported as a major escalation in the long-running crisis.

28/02/2026 – 01/03/2026:

Iran retaliates with ballistic missile and drone attacks against targets in the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf states, aiming at U.S. and allied bases. There are civilian casualties and infrastructure damage in the UAE.

Israel declares a state of emergency due to the heightened threat level and mobilizes reservists, closes civilian airspace, and implements civil defence measures.

The conflict continues with ongoing strikes and counter-strikes. Regional airspace closures cause widespread international flight disruptions and global leaders call for de-escalation amidst emergency meetings like at the United Nations.
